In 2017, Cardiff Council became the first Council in Europe to roll out a new smart parking system that helps drivers find an available parking space using the ‘Park Cardiff’ smartphone app.
Working with parking technology firm Smart Parking Limited, Cardiff Council has installed 3,300 sensors into the road providing a real-time map of parking availability in ‘paid-for’ and disabled parking bays
Congestion and driving at low speeds significantly increases pollutants from cars and the innovative system makes it easy and fast to find a parking space.
With many parking spaces close to the city centre also free after 6pm, the technology can save residents money by highlighting available spaces, thereby saving on the cost of having to park in, for example, a paid multi-story car park.
The Park Cardiff app is available for iOS and Android devices on the Apple Store and Google Play store.
Smart Parking’s bay sensor system has been successfully deployed in Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, South Africa and Europe.
